Honoring a Legacy
At Players Congress, we honor the memory and legacy of Robert “Bob” Grant, affectionately known as “Uncle Bob” in the sports world. Bob’s life story is one of resilience, dedication, and exceptional achievements, both on and off the field. Born on October 14, 1946, in Jacksonville, NC, Bob blazed a trail from humble beginnings to national acclaim, becoming a cherished figure for his pioneering contributions to football and his tireless advocacy for equality.
As one of the first three Black athletes to join the Wake Forest University football program in 1964, Bob made history, breaking barriers in Division I athletics in the South. His courage, coupled with his remarkable athleticism, earned him a spot in the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame and paved the way for future generations of athletes. His impressive performance as a linebacker led him to the NFL, where he played for the Baltimore Colts and the Washington Redskins, claiming a Super Bowl Championship with the Colts in 1971.
